There are time-only watches, and there are A. Lange & Sohne Richard Lange ‘Pour le Mérite’ replica time-only watches.
First launched in 2009, there have been two previous versions of the 40.5mm Richard Lange ‘Pour le Mérite’, in pink gold and platinum. Both featured white enamel dials, but for the new edition the solid silver dial is coated in black – not black enamel – with rhodium-plated gold hands.
It’s an incredibly beautiful white gold A. Lange & Sohne Richard Lange copy watch, but you don’t need us to tell you that: white Roman numerals, with miniature Arabic numerals in scarlet for 15, 30, 45 and 60 minutes. It is a lesson in restrained classicism, with the kind of design that reveals itself slowly the more you look at it. Those red numerals are one example; the slight “spider leg” angle on the lugs is another; the precise length of the hands compared with the height of the Roman numerals, and so on.
The L044.1 calibre uses the chain to guarantee constant torque; impressively, the 636-part chain is actually able to hold the weight of 2kg despite being just 0.25mm thick. Turn it over, and beneath the German silver three-quarter plate lies the fusée-and-chain transmission – a signature across the ‘Pour le Mérite’ line.
Last week, the Glashütte-based brand took the opportunity of its International Dealers Conference in nearby Dresden to announce the latest iteration of the Richard Lange ‘Pour le Mérite’, a A. Lange & Sohne replica limited edition in white gold.
