Limited to just eight numbered pieces, the new CDC Carbon JeanRichard Highlands chronograph replica watch features that sexy “black on black” color scheme that was all the rage just a year ago.  The main problem of this combination is that the question of the watch gradually acquiring a collection of ugly, easily noticeable scratches is not if, but when. And this is especially true for the sporty timekeeper, which it is.

While Panerai and other highly overvalued brands can afford making a limited edition watch in an expensive ceramic case, JeanRichard, like many other watchmakers of lower rank, has to use more affordable combinations of materials. This particular model, for example, is crafted from carbon-treated steel that sports a matte black PVD coating on its surface. And with its dial decorated with a patch of ultra-light carbon-fiber, the watch leaves an impression of a very sporty, highly energetic (although somewhat grim) device.

This particular model, judging by the number of jewels, frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour and the same power reserve of 42 hours (more than enough for a watch, which is supposed to be worn on a daily basis,) is probably the good old ETA 2892-A2 blank caliber that had its oscillating weight replaced with a branded one and, probably, better adjusted to allow for an increased precision. According to the information that I was able to find, the watch is powered by what they call Caliber JR60 automatic movement. Although often referred to as an “in-house caliber”, it is in-fact a modified version of third-party movement.

If so, I don’t see it as a problem: it is actually good to have a time-proven mechanism in your watch: easier to service, cheaper to repair.

Nighttime legibility shouldn’t be a problem, though, thanks to generous amounts of black Superluminova coating the bold, oversized Arabic numerals and the broad hour and minute hands.

Like it is the case with all black-on-black models, the new JeanRichard Highlands CDC Carbon doesn’t sport a particularly contrast dial layout, so reading time in some lighting conditions can also be not very convenient. Luckily, the JeanRichard Highlands copy watch is equipped with a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal that features an antireflective coating and makes reading time a trifle easier.

Although the watch is equipped with a unidirectional rotating bezel with a standard diving scale, this is by no means a diver. Even if you find the time to change the black perforated leather strap that the best fake JeanRichard watch comes with, there is still a pretty unimpressive water resistance rating of just 10 ATM, which makes skindiving with this piece a risky business.
