The Breitling Bentley B06 replica watch model features one of the three new calibres launched by Breitling this year, the B06. With greater vertical integration and after enjoying 10 years association with Bentley, Angus Davies reviews this latest high-end watch replica presented in red gold and shares his thoughts. The interior of the car is sumptuous, the engine whispers quietly and the ride is majestic. Yet, apply a little pressure to the throttle and the engine roars like a caged lion. If the driver does not smile with unbridled joy, then my recommendation is to check they have a pulse.

It should therefore come as no surprise that Breitling and Bentley joined hands in marriage ten years ago, to form the Breitling for Bentley brand.

However, it is the hard-top Continental GT V8 which continues to elicit salivation and provoke my covetous thoughts.A recent drive of the Bentley Continental GTC V8 has left an indelible mark on my psyche. Although, I have driven several cars since, I still crave a car from Crewe. The soft-top variant of the car is handsome.

I have had my mid-life crisis. The sportscar moment came and went. I now want not only performance from a car, but seductive sinuous lines to engage my eyes as well as a comfortable, cosseting ride.

They exemplify Swiss precision timekeeping with a broad range of watches, capable of meeting the expectations of the most discerning buyers. The Swiss brand, Breitling, often associated with aviation has much in common with Bentley.

The craftsmanship is ubiquitous with time-served hands lovingly working sumptuous leather and vivid veneers into exquisite outcomes. There are few cars which can usurp the matchless mastery practised in Cheshire.A recent trip to Bentley’s manufacturing site in Crewe, reinforced my profound love of the marque with the Flying B mascot.

This year at Baselworld, the brand revealed three new calibres, the B04, B05 and B06. It is the latter which features in a model that has grabbed my attention. In recent years Breitling has become a manufacture, making its own movements. It started with the Breitling 01, back in 2009, in a dedicated facility in La Chaux-de-Fonds.

I remember interviewing Mark and him mentioning he had one of only six special Breitling for Bentley watches awarded to the Le Mans drivers who participated in the race. Breitling took both first and second places in their inaugural outing at the iconic racetrack. In 2003, my compatriot, Mark Blundell drove for Bentley at Le Mans. It is fair to say that at the time, I experienced acute envy, something other self-confessed best quality fake Breitling Bentley B06 chronograph watch addicts will no doubt relate to.

I now write for several websites and publications in different countries and it was whilst with the editor and publisher of Deluxe Swiss Made, Massimiliano Pantieri, that I was asked to join him for a meeting with Jean-Paul Girardin, Vice President of Breitling SA.

Mr Girardin was charming and his ability to converse in fluent English was rather humbling for this native of Lancashire whose language skills extend to a limited German vocabulary. We looked at several novelties, many of which had eye appeal. However, it was the Breitling for Bentley B06 in 18-carat red gold which beguiled me with its luxurious form.

The dial

Described as “Silver Storm”, the colour of the dial wonderfully complements the red gold case.

The hours and minutes are imparted with gold hands, lined with luminous centres.

A subsidiary seconds display features at 9 o’clock, repeating the open-worked details and Arabic numerals of the aforementioned chronograph counters. However, in this instance the hand is solid, not openworked and features an arrowhead tip. The variation is subtle, but reaffirms the distilled delivery of this fine timepiece.

The perimeter of the dial is marked with a “variable tachometer” which in conjunction with the bezel can be used to “calculate average speed whatever time elapsed, the distance covered or the speed reached – contrary to standard tachometers that measure only times of less than 60 seconds” (Breitling press release).

Whilst I am sure some purchasers will use the variable tachometer, it is the masculine design which is particularly appealing. It reinforces the perception of high performance and the importance of speed in competition. I doubt few alpha males could resist its charms.

A central chronograph seconds hand is presented in gold, with a flourish of red at its tip. A Breitling “B” features at the opposite end of the hand, acting as a counterbalance. This is just one example of the minutiae which enhances wearer enjoyment. Moreover, this is no regular central chronograph seconds hand. It performs one full 360° revolution every 30 seconds instead of the usual 60 seconds. This allows smaller time intervals to be read off, aiding finite measurement of small integers.

The central area of the dial is open-worked in a lattice-like pattern, reminiscent of a Bentley radiator grille. It provides a partially obscured view of the mechanical heartbeat within. This form of horological titillation engenders interest and connects the owner to the craftsmanship residing within the case.

At 3 o’clock, a 15-minute chronograph counter resides. It features a small, openworked gold hand, Arabic numerals and a series of openworked concentric circles which reveal more of the movement. This design is echoed for the 6-hour chronograph at 6 o’clock.

The case

The knurled bezel proffers delightful tactility. It is reminiscent of the inside of the door handles found on some Bentley cars, as well as emulating the design of the previously mentioned radiator grilles.

I have a propensity to choose watches encased in noble metals. The 18-carat red gold is warm and luxurious.

The case diameter is 49mm and fitted comfortably on my wrist. However, it may prove too large for those of diminutive stature. One reason for the comfort afforded is the short lug design. The strap cossets the wrist snugly and the watch replica does not feel unduly cumbersome despite its substantial proportions.

The movement

Earlier versions of Breitling for Bentley watches had a solid caseback, however, I am pleased to report that this model has a sapphire caseback. I applaud this decision. The movement is magnificent and should not be hidden from view.

Those familiar with modern Bentleys will immediately recognise that the oscillating weight resembles the wheel rim of a Continental GT. The spokes are charmingly brushed and only partially obscure the bridges and mainplate beneath. I am reminded of the view of ceramic brake callipers and cross drilled brake discs visible through the wheel spokes, engendering thoughts of prodigious stopping power. In the case of the B06, potency is expressed with an impressive power reserve of more than 70 hours.

Like many men, I often lift the bonnet of a car to admire the engine within. Whilst I do not possess the adroit skill of an artisan capable of working on a Bentley engine or, in this case a Breitling for Bentley watch replica movement, I can appreaciate fine finishing and elevated engineering.

The bridges are decorated with Côtes de Genève motif. However, the aspect which particularly appeals is the view of a castellated column wheel, indicating that this is a fully integrated chronograph typical of only the finest watches to carry a stop watch replica function.

Breitling have exposed the watch replica to the scrutiny of the Contrôle Officiel Suisse des Chronomètres (COSC) and after exhaustive testing the watch replica comes with COSC certification. This is a chronometer providing potential purchasers with precision and reliability.

At the end of our presentation by Jean-Paul Girardin, a few photographs were taken and I had one more opportunity to wear my favourite piece from this year’s Breitling for Bentley collection.

Sadly, despite employing my best charm offensive, Mr Girardin did not feel any compunction to hand the gold B06 to one of its biggest fans.

My only hope is that this dream is realised before the two brands celebrate another ten years of collaboration.
